Some of you may have noticed that I did a VERY short review of this book a while back – sorry for the duplication!Īnyway… what is the book about? The books is a lovely story of friendship. His stories are simply too cute and quirky and his drawings and paintings gorgeous. I don’t know anyone, who does not adore his books.

In the UK Oliver Jeffers has quickly established himself as a modern day “children’s classic author”. Tickets have been purchased and I can’t wait to take Red Ted! And I want to make the experience “easier” for him by making sure he knows the story well!

For much of the tale, the characters are placed on crisp white backdrops, while colorful ocean scenes depict their journey. The boy has a square body, stick legs, and a round head with tiny dot eyes and an expressive mouth. The soft watercolor paintings feature simple shapes and a palette that ranges from pale to bold. However, when they finally reach their destination, he realizes that the penguin was not lost, but just lonely and looking for a friend. During their long sea voyage, the youngster passes the time by telling his companion many stories. Determined to help the creature find its way home, he discovers that penguins come from the South Pole, and the two board a rowboat. The child assumes that the penguin is lost, which is logical since the lumpy black-and-white bird does look awfully forlorn.
